Special Educational Needs
At Nathaniel Newton we strive to ensure that children with SEND are educated, in an inclusive environment alongside their peers. We recognise that all pupils are entitled to a quality of provision that will enable them to achieve their potential.
We believe in positive interventions, removing barriers to learning, raising expectations and levels of achievement and working in partnership with other agencies in order to provide a positive educational experience for all our pupils including those with special educational needs or a disability.
By the time Children leave Nathaniel Newton Infant School, they will have been fully included in all activities at school in order to promote the highest levels of achievement, have increased self-worth and enthusiasm for learning and at whatever academic ability have achieved well from their starting points ensuring a sense of achievement.
Those identified as having Special Educational Needs (SEN) will have individual plans of work drawn up for them and their progress will be closely monitored.
The Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator (SENDCO) is Mrs V Taroni. The School’s SEN Policy and our SEN School Offer is available here.
We also aim to develop those children who are gifted and talented to enable them to achieve their potential. The School’s policy relating to this is available on request.
School Disability Equality Scheme
Our school seeks to focus on each person’s individual needs to allow all members of the school community to develop to their full potential. All members of the school are equally valued so that they can develop a sense of self-worth and self-esteem. No-one should be segregated or discriminated against because of actual or imagined differences. We are, therefore, equally ambitious for our pupils and staff with disabilities. If you wish to read the whole Disability Equality Scheme it is available here.
